It has less caffeine than Robusta but offers a much higher level of acidity and aromatic complexity, making it the preferred choice for single-origin offerings.
The Strength and Body of Robusta
On the other hand, Indonesian Robusta is a powerhouse of strength and reliability. It grows at lower elevations, primarily in regions like Lampung and parts of Java. As the name suggests, the Robusta plant is "robust"—it is naturally resistant to pests and can withstand warmer climates. These beans contain nearly double the caffeine of Arabica and have a much thicker "body." While the flavor profile is more straightforward—typically nutty, woody, and bitter—Robusta is an essential ingredient for espresso blends because it produces a rich, thick crema that Arabica cannot match alone.

The decision between the two depends on your target market. If you are a specialty roastery aiming for high-end pour-over or boutique coffee, Arabica is your best bet. In fact, many successful roasters source both to create their own signature house blends, balancing the aroma of Arabica with the body of Robusta.
